Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize the new recommendations based on evidence, expert clinical remarks and patient perspective of diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease associated with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin (A1AT) Deficiency
  • Recognize which populations are most appropriate for targeted testing to improve case-finding of patients at risk of or with documented lung disease associated with A1AT deficiency
  • Describe the efficacy of A1AT augmentation therapy in patients with COPD and documented A1AT deficiency
  • Integrate the new recommendations in clinical practice

Developed by Dr. Samir Gupta, Mike Boivin, Dr. Vivien Brown and Dr. George Zhanel, this dynamic presentation covers four key respiratory immunizations – RSV, pneumococcal, influenza, and COVID-19 -providing attendees with up-to-date information on vaccine efficacy, safety profiles, and administration guidelines. Beyond the clinical aspects, they touch on the pressing issues of vaccine hesitancy and fatigue, offering evidence-based approaches to overcome these challenges.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between RSV, pneumococcal disease, influenza, and COVID-19 in terms of causative agents, transmission, and general epidemiology
  • Interpret the current recommendations for each vaccine, including target populations and dosing schedules
  • Discuss the vaccine effectiveness and safety to allow for a benefit: risk discussion for vaccination
  • Summarize strategies to address vaccine hesitancy in a patient who is a candidate for respiratory vaccines
