Slide 1
Patchy pattern of disease with intra-alveolar accumulation with areas of sparing. Mild pulmonary hemorrhage (this was not a common finding on most slides).

Slide 2 and 3
Intra-alveolar accumulation of eosinophilic granular material associated with type 2 pneumocytes hyperplasia.
Occaisional foamy macrophages.
Relatively normal interstitium.
Lack of significant inflammation

Slide 4 (PAS)
Positive stain on PAS

In addition here were no AFB, Pneumocystis carnii or fungal elements on stains. There were no viral inclusions. Histochemical stains were negative for CMV, Herpes Simplex Virus and Adenovirus.
