CASE PRESENTATION

Case of a 20 month old boy with asthma who presented to a peripheral hospital with respiratory distress, an oxygen requirement (new), and cysts on his very first chest xray.

CASE HISTORY

This 20-month-old male was transferred to our hospital after a five-day admission at a peripheral hospital for respiratory distress. He presented to Emergency with cough, shortness of breath, retractions, fatigue, lethargy and failure to thrive. He was admitted with a presumed viral exacerbation of asthma and treated with ventolin and steroids for five days. Since he did not respond to this therapy, a chest xray was ordered. (Shown below.)
