Dr. Geoff Maksym is a professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering at Dalhousie University, trained at the Meakins-Christie Labs and Harvard School of Public Health, and conducts research in the Airway Biology and Lung Mechanics Laboratory at Dalhousie. He develops technologies and probes structure-function from the single airway smooth muscle cell in vitro to the whole lung in vivo, including oscillometers to better understand lung function in health and disease. His recent research includes measurements and computational modelling of lung mechanics in asthma, COPD and lung transplant including using MRI and SPECT/CT imaging methods, including research to improve quality assurance in oscillometry. He has participated on national and international panels and grant review panels for respiratory research, including the European Taskforce on Oscillometry, co-developed a CME module on Oscillometry for the ERS this past year, and served on the CRC and ATS programming committees in various capacities.
