The Department of Medicine and the Division of Respirology at the University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital is looking for an Academic Respirologist who will manage the neuro-respiratory aspects of the Canadian Alternatives in Non-invasive Ventilation (CANVent) program. The CANVent Program is a unique program in Canada focused on the prevention and management of respiratory complications of neuromuscular and neurologic conditions including long term home ventilation. The program has pioneered the practice of Neuro-Respiratory medicine and contributed to numerous national and international clinical practice guidelines as well as strategies specific to the weaning of unweanable patients in critical care.
The successful candidate will supervise the CANVent Program which includes neuromuscular clinics (including weekly ALS), oversight of the clinic RTs in their management of in and outpatients, rehab consults, inpatient Medicine and Respiratory consults, ICU weaning (Civic and General campuses). Included will also be supervision of the community CRC RTs caring for long term ventilated patients (Complex Respiratory Care Program). The candidate will provide clinical practice of general Respiratory Medicine, teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Respiratory Medicine subspecialty residents, Respiratory Medicine (MRP and consult services), ambulatory care, and equitable participation in Respirology after hours call.
The successful candidate must hold an MD degree; be a member of, or be eligible to be a member of, the Canadian Medical Protective Association; have, or be eligible for certification in Respirology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario. Applicants must demonstrate an interest and specific training in an academic stream; clinical research or medical education. The successful candidate will be eligible to hold an academic appointment at the rank of an Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Ottawa. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital are bilingual institutions and therefore in the case of potentially successful candidates of equal ability, a bilingual (French/English) candidate would be preferred.
