This presentation will review the changes in paradigms in the diagnosis and management of childhood asthma in the past 30 years, which may significantly affect the short-, medium- and long-term outcome of children as they grow into adulthood, and address future directions. It will describe the evolving challenges of conducting rigorous clinical research in young children and of implementing research findings into real-life practice, and conclude on lessons learned.
